Introduction
Overactive bladder is an issue affecting millions of women worldwide. It manifests as frequent urges to urinate, difficulty controlling urination, and often, urinary incontinence. This condition can significantly diminish quality of life, leading to the avoidance of social activities and even isolation. Many women struggling with an overactive bladder seek effective solutions, ranging from medication to more invasive procedures. However, non-invasive methods, such as pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT), are gaining increasing popularity and can significantly improve bladder control. PFMT led to a significant reduction in OAB symptoms in five studies, with improvements noted in urinary frequency and urgency urinary incontinence.
In this article, I will share my personal journey of dealing with an overactive bladder and describe how a 9-month pelvic floor muscle training program with PelviCoach helped me regain control over my body and improve my quality of life.
My story
I am 56 years old. Until last year, every outing was traumatic for me because before I could reach anywhere, I had to return to the bathroom multiple times. I realized then how problematic urinary incontinence could be. Everything changed thanks to pelvic floor muscle training with the kGoal device and the support of a specialist in the PelviCoach Program!
For years, I had been visiting a urologist and taking very high doses of medication, which had a negative impact on my health and well-being. By the end of last year, my doctor suggested either Botox injections into the bladder or the implantation of a stimulator. I began to search for alternative solutions and eventually discovered pelvic floor muscle training with a device and app.
I stopped taking medication
Because my pelvic floor muscles were very weak, starting to use the device was exceptionally challenging for me. However, through consistency and determination, I was eventually able to reduce my medication doses and eventually stop them altogether. Now, I leave the house without the stress that once paralyzed me.
Support from PelviCoach was a huge motivation
With the support of PelviCoach, I felt well-cared for, and all my doubts were quickly addressed. This tremendous support further motivated me to exercise regularly. My biggest challenge initially was convincing myself to use the device and believe that it would actually work. Another challenge was learning to be consistent—finding time and a place for training. But today, after 9 months, I know it was worth it. It’s worth being able to take a walk calmly, go to the movies without worrying about having to leave the screening, or travel anywhere without nervously searching for a bathroom. Thanks to the exercises with PelviFly, I have gained mental comfort, peace of mind, and most importantly, improved health. If you have the opportunity, please give it a try.
